Father and 2 sons medal at the Quebec Open International Judo Tournament in Montreal - October 10-11, 2009.
The tournament was well attended with over 750 competitors from across Canada, USA, UK, Tahiti, Brazil.
WINNERS FROM THE TAKAHASHI DOJO:
Sean Macfadyen captured gold in the +30 yr. lightweight division.
Adam Macfadyen - eldest son, placed 3rd on Saturday in the Under 17, -55kg. and the Senior Men, -55 kg. division the next day.
Torin Macfadyen took silver in the Under 15, -42 kg. division.
Jean Luc Robinson in the Under 15, -66 kg. category.
The other bronze medallist from the region was
Olivia Cheng-Boivin from Lycee Claudel, Under 15, -46 kg.
This tournament serves as the first qualifier for the Youth Nationals in Alberta next summer. The second qualifier will be November 7-8 in Kingston.
The East Region Ontario Winter Games trials will be held Nov. 15 in Ottawa.

Summer has come and gone - now back to our Judo, Kendo and Iaido Schedule:
- Teen and Senior class is open on Saturday, Sept. 5th Labour Day weekend.
- No Sunday training, Sept 6th and no Kata class on Monday Sept 7th.
- Children’s Judo and Kendo classes resume Saturday, September 12th.
- New time for Children’s Kendo class – Saturdays – 2:00-3:30 p.m.
- Iaido and Jodo – Mondays and Wednesdays 8:00-9:30 p.m.
- Sunday Training on Sept 13th.
Now is the time to catch up on some of the past events and results.
Congratulations to the following:
- May 24th, 2009 - National Senior and Masters Shiai and Kata Tournament in Sherbrooke, QC, Kathleen Gordon-Lee won a gold in the Masters Division.

- Tony was appointed as provincial coach for the Senior Nationals.
- May 21 - June attended the National Kata Judging Seminar instructed by Kuniko Takeuchi, IJF Kata judge and Pan American Director of Kata. The following day judged Kata .
- June 20, 2009 - Ontario School Championships - Hershey Centre, Mississauga. Two girls, Alicia Rimad and Daneen Mbouin won silver medals.
- July 5-6, 2009 - Canadian Youth Judo Nationals - Lethbridge, Alberta - Adam MacFadyen competing in U17 and Torin MacFadyen in U15 both won bronze medals. Following the tournament, Torin stayed for the National Training Camp.
- August 29-30, 2009 Ontario Iaido Taikai and Seminar – JCCC Toronto – Ed Chart 1st in +4th dan category and Miki Chart was 3rd in Team competition.
The dojo was busy with three children’s summer camps. Guest instructors included experts, Mike Arai, Kendo 5th dan, Katherine Neufield Kendo 1st dan, Ed and Miki Chart, Iaido 5th and 3rd dan, Hans deGroot and Guy Charlebois, Aikido 2nd dan
A highlight of the summer was the visit of the Emperor and Empress of Japan in early July. Mas, June, Tina and Sean had the great honour of meeting the gracious couple who were celebrating their 50th anniversary. It was a memorable occasion as people in Japan are not privileged to meet and converse with royalty.

Once again, Takahashi Dojo is hosting Martial Arts summer camps.
There are 4 camps this year:
July 13-17
August 10-14
August 17-21
New! Mini Judo Camp: July 20-24 (10am – 12pm)
Camp includes instruction in Judo, Jujitsu, Karate, Kendo, Aikido, self-defense, outdoor sports and Japanese cultural activities.
Students aged 7 to 16 will have a varied and fun schedule run by experienced and highly qualified black belt instructors. Dojo discipline, skill and confidence building are emphasized.
Camp hours are 9 - 4 p.m.
Mini Camp for ages 5-12 focuses on falling, basic throws, holds and games.

There is a new class starting at the dojo
Family Day Judo
Adult Judokas can do judo with their children.
Every Saturday 11 am to 12

To all Judokas,
After Thursday, June 25, the children’s and teen’s classes will break for summer. We will stop class a few minutes early on the 25th and children are invited to bring snacks or drinks to share.
Regular schedule will resume after Labour Day on Saturday, September 12. Pre-register your child for the fall and take advantage of last year’s rates.
Adult classes will remain the same, Tues 8 pm, Thurs 7:30 pm and Sat 12 pm.
From July 11 to August 29 (excluding Aug 1) we will be having “Family Day Judo” on Saturdays from 11 am to 12 pm. Adult judokas can do judo with their children.
Please support our summer martial arts camps by giving the flyer to a friend or school.

Yudansha Seminar – covering requirements for Yudansha Gradings.
For all those judoka aspiring to become black belts and/or for those who want to learn technique for Nagewaza (throws) and Katamewaza (grappling technique) this would be an excellent seminar to attend.
Conducted by: Wayne Erdman, Mr. Goki Uemura, and members of the Ontario Grading Board.
Wayne Sensei is a 7th Dan, 5 time Canadian Champion, Former Canadian Team Coach, and chair of the Judo Canada Hall of Fame.
Mr. Goki Uemura, 8th dan, is the past chair and is an honorary member of the Provincial Grading Board.
Charlie Formosa, President of Judo Ontario will also be present.
