NEW GRANT OPPORTUNITY: Communities in Action Fund

For 2007 to 2008, the Ontario government is planning to invest $5 million into the highly successful Communities in Action Fund (CIAF) program. CIAF is a key initiative of the government’s ACTIVE2010 Strategy and Ontario’s Action Plan for Healthy Eating and Active Living.

  • Improved leadership training programs for urban Aboriginal street youth.
  • Programs that provide new experiences, including competition opportunities for physically challenged children and their families.
  • Previously unavailable sport clinics in isolated, low-income communities.
  • Formation of walking or other types of physical activity clubs.
  • New training sessions to make sport and recreation settings safer.
  • Additional after-school sport and activity programs.

The deadline date for a grant application is March 2, 2007 for provincial and local projects. This year application forms are available on the Ministry’s website:

This is a great opportunity to access new program funding and enhance your club’s programs and services.

Here are some of the activities coming up in the next    few months:

1.   Provincial Club Trainings

2.   Officials Seminar

      On Saturday February 3rd, 2007, from 11:00am – 1:00pm    at the Ottawa Judo Club there will be an Officials Seminar for athletes, judoka and parents who want to learn to be   scorekeepers and timekeepers at tournaments.

3.   RMC is coming, February 17th,  2007

      Kingston Military Community Sports Centre

       Ontario Team Qualifier

      Registration Deadline – February 8th, 2007

      Cost –Jr $30 (93-94-95), Juv/IJF Junior $35, Sr/Masters $40

      Family Rate - $75.00       Kata $60 (per team)

4.   Kawasaki Rendokan is going to host their third

      consecutive Senior and Junior Novice Tomodachi

      Tournament on March 17th, 2007 at the Kawasaki Rendokan

      Dojo, located in the Hamilton CJCC.

5.   2007 Ontario Winter Juvenile Championships

      Saturday, March 24th, & Sunday, March 25th, 2007

       For ages 14-16 years of age

      Royal St. George’s College in Toronto

      Regional Qualifiers are in February and first week of March

      Regional Registration fee: $20.00 per person

      Contact Judo Ontario for general information and contact   

      your Regional Director for qualifying information.

6.   Yudansha Examination (all ranks) &

       Technical Seminar

      Takashi Dojo, 5 Melrose Avenue, Ottawa, Ont. K1Y 1T8

      Saturday, March 31st 2007 is the Technical Seminar & it

       Runs from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm

      $25.00 fee (fee is waived for the uke of the candidate)

      Sunday, April 1st, 2007 is the Yudansha Examination

      Shodan, Nidan Registration: 9:45 am to 10:00 am

                           Examination: 10:00 am

      Sandan & above Registration: 1:15 pm to 1:30 pm

                             Examination: 1:30 pm   
  

The 2006 National Grading Syllabus and Recommendation  forms are available on the Judo Canada website:

www.judocanada.org All documentation and grading fees must be received by March 2nd, 2007 for verification. No application will be accepted without a Judo Canada passport. Please send all documents directly to the secretary of the Judo Ontario Grading board, June Takashi c/o Takahashi Dojo.
 

7.   The Provincial Grading Board has identified when gradings will be held and in what region. All gradings around the province will be open to all members despite where you live. In addition, the grading board may be holding other seminars throughout the year. A proposed schedule for next year is as follows:
             

                  March 31 and April 1/07    East Region

                  Late May/June 2007         Central East

                  August 2007                    Central West

                  Sept/Oct 2007                 North

                  Jan 2008                         South West

                  April 2008                       North West

     As a reminder, all provincial gradings will be forwarded to the membership 60 days in advance. This will allow members 30 days to review and submit their forms. This will allow the office 30 days to receive and review all applicants’ recommendation forms.

8.   The Twelfth Annual Liberty Bell Judo Classic
