Children’s Fitness Tax Credit

Hi everyone! Starting this year, physical activity program registration fees for children under the age of 16 are now considered a tax credit! Please note this applies for fees PAID on or after January 1, 2007 and each child has to be signed up for a minimum of 8 weeks (a physical activity camp must be 5 consecutive days). Children who are already 16 at the start of the taxation year will not be eligible.  The maximum amount eligible per child per calendar year is $500, which works out to a maximum refund of $80 per child, depending on your income.  Don’t forget your receipt when you claim next year!

We’re waiting for an official Canadian Kendo Federation statement on this but I do believe that kendo will qualify as a physical activity according to the stipulations for the credit.
