Gerry Sensei’s Sturgeon Falls Historical Website

Filed under: Uncategorized, Judo
Message From Gerry Sensei;

I would like everyone to know that Yvon Serre was one of my students who did attain the rank of Ikkyu (Brown Belt).  He contacted me last Fall when he was here in Ottawa visiting his mom & family.  At the time he asked me about putting up a website about our club and picked my brain about certain events.  I also supplied him with old photos and newspaper articles.   He also did other research on his own around the Sturgeon Falls area.  His dad, Ubald Serre, used to be owner of the Sturgeon Falls Tribune so he was able to look in the archives.

If you click onto Yvon’s website, you will able to see which city and province he is residing in with his wife and daughter.  He is also a great musician as anyone can see/hear if they click onto his site which I find most interesting.  I still can’t get over the fact that Yvon, a Judo student of mine, is now living in China and getting along great. He also told me that he is looking for a Judo club in his area with the intention of continuing his Judo studies.

Gerry

Enjoy the Sturgeon Falls site/archive!

Sunday Judo + Saturday Special

Filed under: Uncategorized, Judo, Fun

Hi gang!

Sunday judo is on tomorrow at 9:00 am!  See you there!

Dave is opening up the shop and well Rene will be back soon so…

Saturday Special - today we had the pleasure to receive some judo teachings from -  Roman Hatashita 4th Degree Black Belt & 1992 Canadian Olympian, from the Kaizen Club in Kitchener Waterloo.  We learned some superb foot sweeps - w/ a sneaky jump & sweep learning technique, fancy side rolls, and a wicked tomo e nagi - done with an elegant hand twist and side break fall.  He also shared some of his fond memories of Phil Sensei (I think sensei blushed!) and reminded us that we practice in a great judo club of great Canadian historical significance.

For those of you who missed the class, well - We are now going to use these new secret moves on you!

See you all tomorrow!
